ABOUT OUR TEAM
Our Mission:
To aggregate news and identify storylines that promote the NWSL.
Purpose:
NWSLines.com, a multi-author weblog, exists to 1) serve as a portal for news coverage and information that can help develop a knowledgeable U.S. fanbase, thereby generating support for those who compete in the league and 2) provide a creative outlet for its team of principle contributors.

Our Intent:
NWSLines.com is a not-for-profit venture and we are not collecting data or information about anyone who visits our site. If we do decide to turn this hobby into a business, we will be transparent about that.

We are not a news outlet. We have a page dedicated to helping readers find reputable news outlets and people who do reputably cover the NWSL. However, we will commit to following these best journalistic practices.

Our Values:
Any notes, storylines (BLOGlines), infographics or explainers posted on this site will reflect the interests, thoughts and opinions of the contributor.
Stories and graphics posted on this site will be written or created by a human and posted with a date and byline (full name of the author or initials on posts made on any social platform).
"We don't plagiarize, and we respect copyright," Associated Press Statement of News Values (Retrieved 2024 online at https://www.ap.org/about/news-values-and-principles/downloads/ap-news-values-and-principles.pdf). We will provide attribution, sourcing or direct links to any quotes or information where necessary.
We will not knowingly post incorrect information but, because we are human, when mistakes are inevitably made we will post corrections that are transparently disclosed.

Why wouldn't I want to publish a website dedicated to the NWSL? It's a delightful blend of things I love to do: work with a team of creative professionals, use sports contexts for teaching, and tell stories (lots of stories). And as a professor of the practice in strategic sport communication, my employer actually encourages me to do projects like this.
Bonus! The 2024 NWSL Draft featured two of my graduate student advisees, along with a third teammate from that magnificent 2023 Red Raiders team (who was wise enough to avoid my classes). All three heard their names called, each realizing the dream--from their sweat equity--of a lifetime. It was a thrilling night.
I know. I was there. "Why aren't more fans here? Why aren't more media and sports information types here?" I contemporaneously thought. (Those are rhetorical, I know the answers.)
Awareness comes before action. So, what could I do to help promote the league's storylines? Welcome to NWSLines.com.
I grew up playing sports, more specifically soccer
and tennis, and I like to think I could've been the next Abby Wambach or Serena Williams, you know, minus having the skills to go pro. Thankfully, I learned I could still work in sports without being a player!

I received my bachelor's degree in public relations and a certificate in sports media from Texas State University and quickly realized I needed to learn more. From there, I traveled west to Lubbock, Texas, and received my master's degree in mass communication and certificates in sports communication and advanced digital and social media from there. That's when I met Jody. She was my professor and mentor (still is) throughout my time at Texas Tech and we had long talked about starting a passion project.
Well, here we are! Jody brought this idea to me, introduced me to Ashley and we all jumped right in. I am thrilled about being a part of NWSLines and I can't wait to highlight the league and women's sports to the level it should be.
For as long as I can remember, I've had a passion for sports. Granted, my childhood mostly centered around the "other" football, but still a sports fanatic nonetheless! Unfortunately, my academic career didn't take me down the sports road until 2021.
I received my bachelors in journalism from Texas Tech ('07) then spent time working in tv news and marketing and communications before heading back to complete my master's in strategic communications. That's when I met Jody - who convinced me that the Sports Communications graduate certificate was for me. Our paths crossed repeatedly throughout my program and she served as a mentor in my final course. She saw my passion and helped me grow it along with hers.

That's what brought me here to NWSLines and I could not be more excited about what this team can do for the league and for women's sports in general.
