About the League

Established in 2012, the first match was played on April 13, 2013, when then FC Kansas City hosted Portland Thorns FC (according to Wikipedia). Following a tumultuous inaugural decade, the league currently operates with a new leadership team, in partnership with a stronger NWSL Player's Association (NWSLPA), an anti-harassment policy was adopted in January 2023.

 

While NWSLines.com acknowledges this difficult past, we are committed to its present and future. The NWSL now features 16 teams that compete from March to November with the top six teams advancing to the playoffs. (The Boston and Denver franchises will begin play in 2026.)​
