It looks like we'll find out next week if the rumors about Denver being awarded the 16th NWSL franchise are true. (ESPN first reported the Denver expansion earlier this month, claiming sources confirmed it.)
NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman told ESPN this week that there is more to come in the near future and expansion efforts are not done. "We know that our expansion is not done. We're in active conversations with our board to determine the next sequence of expansion, and as I've shared before, we have so many interested bidders who were not given a team in this round."
She went on to say that the NWSL will be developing the next expansion strategy over the next six months.
We already know the league is growing from 14 to 16 by 2026. BOS Nation FC has already been announced as team 15.
You can read more from Berman's interview and details about how the league will move beyond 2026 on ESPN.
